Some things to note... 1. Your username is not recorded, so anyone can input data (encourage fishing buddies that might not use the site) - you don't need a username to input data. 2. Because of this, I have to use IP number and date to identify a trip. You can only enter one outing for any date from the same computer, this shouldn't be much of a problem, unless you're sharing a connection with another person trying to enter data. 3. Only enter outings after 1/1/06, you'll get a message if you try to enter an earlier outing. 4. The data update is kind of slow, you won't notice on dialup, but high speed users will have a lag (it's not unbearable). Sorry about that, it's due to the connection between the web and database servers. I will work on it when I get some time. 5. There is no reporting tool available now. I figured it was most important to begin collecting data asap. I will now be able to put some effort into creating a page(s) to display the data that have been entered. This should happen within the next month or so.
Thanks Andy, looks like an interesting Data collecting resource. Littledoug and I plan to spend several days third week of March exploring trout streams. Will try to use it to report.
Love fishin walleyes up north, smallmouth or trout NE IA or hunting rings.
thanks for the replies... i hope that we can get a bunch of people reporting trips, and not just productive ones. the more data we are able to gather the more potential uses and gravity they have. so get out and enjoy iowa's streams!
Andy, I was typing in some reports a week ago or so. I got a couple of questions for you. Is it possible to report two different kind of creeks (i.e. put and grow and put and take) fished on the same day? How do you deal with that? It happens that I normally fish more than one creek per day Malevo

malevo - we're not so concerned with getting exact stream info. just put the type of water you fished for the longest. include total catches/time for the whole trip though. it's just to get a general idea where people are fishing. -andy [ Edited Tue Feb 28 2006, 10:03PM ]
This is probably a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. I'm leaving early tomorrow morning to head to Lanesboro, MN to see relatives and do a little trout fishing. It is in the same geographic area as the trout streams in NE Iowa (the driftless region) and it is under one hour away from Decorah or about two hours from Waterloo. I would gladly enter a report (I most likely will end up skunked) but don't know if you want this info since it is across the Iowa- Minnesota border???
grannis - thanks for the offer, but we only want data from iowa's streams. i'm not sure what the data might be used for in the future, but it won't give a good indication of iowa's streams if we get min or wis reports mixed in.
