I can't remember if I posted this many years earlier or not (I think I did), but I am going to post it again.
Believe me.........this is the most awesome knot that we all need to have in our inventory.
If tied correctly you can actually catch big time tarpon, and it is SSSOOOOOO easy to tie.

I've been using the davy knot for a couple years now, love it. It's quick and easy. The only draw back I find is, if you use a larger hook, you need to use a larger tippet, otherwise it slips when tightening.

oldfart,

All you have to do is pass the last turn "one more time" and you should be good to go. This also pertains to tippets on "very small" hooks. I personally was contacted by Davey Wooten (via e-mail) on this particular issue.

I guess I might also add, that if the knot "slips", I don't care what size hook you are using, then the knot is NOT tied correctly. The one thing you want to remember when you are drawing the tag end and the standing line together that you are pulling at a 90 degree angle to EACH other. The knot should NEVER slip know matter what hook size, and the tag end should appear to be 90 degrees from the standing line when finished.

I've used the Davy knot a lot and I like the fact of how little tippet is used when tying the knot,

WOW..........do I sound confusing to you????????? This knot should produce no problems when tied properly with large hooks. The times it may produce problems is with 6x and 7x. That is when you should do the "double" at the end. Okay........sorry for the confusion.........

Not taken personally, as usually responses and replies can tend to get mixed up. Thanks anyway. Tight Lines!!

Nice knot. I've been practicing for the past couple of days. Can't wait to test the knot on a stream.

Guys,

Bumping this one back up to the top with one more endorsement for the Davy knot. What an awesome, streamlined and easy knot! I have to admit, I passed over this thread the first time, but I just got back from Arkansas where I was given a tutorial on the Davy knot (however, not from Davy himself). Interestingly, many of the guides down there use this knot, even though they don't seem to have much good to say about one another!

On a similar note, if you aren't already using it, this loop knot (which I also learned recently) works wonders on streamers as well as dropper flies.

Be good,

Mike
